The Incidence and Characteristics of Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Atypical Adenomatous Hyperplasia in Korea: premalignant and Putative Premalignant Lesions of prostatic Adenocarcinoma

Abstract
We investigated the incidence and characteristics of accepted premalignant lesion of prostatic adenocarcinoma, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PIN) and putative premalignant lesion, atypical adenomatous hyperpasia (AAH) of prostate by
examination of
hematoxylin-eosin stained microscopic slides and immunohistochemical stain for high molecular weight cytokeratin on 259 prostatic tissue.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1. The overall incidence of PIN is 8% (29/359) of cases.
2. Among the PIN, low grade PIN is 24.1% and high grade PIN is 75% of cases.
3. PIN is observed in 32% of cases with prostatic adenocarcinoma and 3.6% of cases without prostatic adenocarcinoma.
4. PIN is observed in 3.6% of TUR, 11.6% of needle biopsy and 16.7% of prostatectomy specimens.
5. The incidence of AAH is 2.2% of (8/359) cases and 4.1% of TUR specimens and all are observed in TUR specimens in. Transition zone.
In conclusion, the incidences of PIN and AAH in Korean are lower than those of Western countries, but other characteristics, ie. Locations, association with cancer are similar to those of Western counturies.
